This graduation ceremony was organised to award and celebrate all the young women who successfully completed the Covid-19 and Digital Employability programme supported by the UK Government Digital access Programme, and implemented between 2020 and 2023 reaching over 2800 young women.
It was the first time ACWICT had staged an award ceremony of this magnitude, post the pandemic. We felt it was important to acknowledge the effort and hard work that all the graduands had put in, especially during COVID-19. The graduands took a leap of faith and wanted to make a change in their livelihoods, which were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The graduation ceremony showcased the remarkable impact of empowering vulnerable women with digital skills amidst the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. We appreciate our partners, Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), African Advanced Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI), Technology Service Providers of Kenya (TESPOK), and Open Space for their tireless efforts to ensure that the young women were trained, mentored, and connected to employment.
Today, 72% of these young women are employed and generating income from the digital workspace. The testimonials of beneficiaries like Paula Nduta Muchai, Grace Rao, and Sharon Nafuna Nato underscored the transformative impact of the program, enabling them to secure employment, pursue entrepreneurial ventures, and navigate the digital landscape with confidence and success.
As the government and stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to fostering digital inclusion and economic empowerment, the graduation ceremony celebrated not only the achievements of the graduates but also the potential for sustained impact and growth in the digital economy during the Covid-19 Era and beyond.
