Enhancing Digital Business Opportunities (EDBO) for Women, Youths and PWDs in Eastern Uganda (Tororo, Busia, Bugiri and Namayingo Districts)

The EDBO project is a grassroots-driven initiative aimed at creating sustainable business and employment opportunities for women, youth, and persons with disabilities in Eastern Uganda. The project targets four districts: Tororo, Busia, Bugiri, and Namayingo focusing on building capacity for digital entrepreneurship, agribusiness, and participation in the digital economy.

By equipping participants with foundational digital skills, business development knowledge, and hands on technical training, the project enables beneficiaries to transform their talents and ideas into viable and scalable enterprises. A structured mentorship and apprenticeship model ensures continuous support, linking participants to market opportunities, financial services, and local business ecosystems.

Leveraging proven digital inclusion models and lessons from similar interventions in Kenya, EDBO promotes innovation, enhances employability, and strengthens grassroots economic resilience through digitally enabled livelihoods.

The project seeks to create business and employment opportunities at the grassroots level by:

  1. Promoting self-employment and sustainable enterprises.
  2. Providing digital and entrepreneurial skills.
  3. Supporting innovation and commercialization of ideas Enabling access to digital jobs and markets

Uganda has one of the youngest populations globally, with a large percentage of youth facing unemployment, underemployment, and limited access to dignified work.

This project responds to these challenges by leveraging digital technology to unlock new economic opportunities—particularly in agribusiness, creative industries, and the digital gig economy.
